Usui Reiki — The Foundation

Usui Reiki is the original, foundational lineage — the root from which all modern Reiki practice grows.
It was developed in the early twentieth century by Japanese Buddhist teacher Mikao Usui, following a profound spiritual experience on Mount Kurama. Usui recognised that the healing capacity he had accessed was not his alone — it could be transmitted, taught, and passed from practitioner to practitioner through a process called attunement.

Usui Reiki works with five foundational principles — known as the Gokai — which function as both ethical guidelines and daily spiritual practice:

Just for today, I will not anger.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will be grateful.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.

The system works through the major chakra centres and energy field of the body, clearing blockages, restoring flow, and supporting the body’s innate healing intelligence. It is gentle, grounding, and profoundly restorative.

Usui Reiki is the bedrock. Everything else I offer is built upon it.
